Between tradition and modernity

Tradition and modernity come face to face in Lichtenberg. They conjure a harmonious union as well as exciting contrasts and by doing so shape the unmistakeable face of the Borough.

The famous painter Heinrich Zille, who lived in the Nöldnerplatz area during the late 19th century, would have to replenish his colour palette today. Lichtenberg enjoys green of all shades in its numerous parks, the vastness of the Barnim countryside and the largest landscaped animal garden in Europe. Deep blue can be found in Rummelsburg Bay, the Obersee and Orankesee lakes and the numerous waters in the north. The façades of old and new houses shine in strong shades. The former factories have shed their grey and have turned into classy modern industrial and service centres.

Lichtenberg really is worth seeing!
